Vegas Baby! part 5

*warning… I’ve chosen to change the character’s name to Liise Fethers. Not Lethers. i hate that last name now.*

Liise stood in the center of the suite in utter awe. The room was a massive living area with beautiful prints of monet on the walls and lush carpets covering the itialian marble floors. The giant L shaped leather sofa faced a 42 inch flat screen tv hanging on the wall. Adjacent to that was a short set of stairs that led to a sunken hot tub and a wet bar.

The door to the left, was to be Mr. Holt’s private suite. It housed one massive king sized bed, an amazing bathroom fit for a king and all the amenities imaginable.  Everything was done in black and gold and the room itself had another door that lead directly into the hallway, if he chose not to cross through the common area.

The door to the right, was to be her room. Apparently when the suite was booked by the new girl, she did not bother to ask how Liise’s suite would look. Usually these suites have one amazingly massive room on one side and a much plainer room on the other, as to accomidate a rich business leader and their lowly peeon. This trip had definitely marked her as the peeon, but not according to the suite! She had the exact same suite as him, except hers was done in shades of rose, sage and gold. It was decidedly more feminine, with its warm tones, and large curtains pulled open to reveal an amazing view of the water show. soft lace hung around the inner lining as she stared in shock out of the window.

The bellhop cleared his throat and tipped him largely. Liise wanted to make it clear that they were to be treated with the utmost care, and she could only think to make sure the servants understood that with caring and generosity.

“Is it to your liking, ma’am?” the bellhop wiggled his eyebrows at her, as he unloaded her luggage into her room.

“It’s excuisite. I cannot even convey how delightful this whole experience will be for Mr. Holt. I need to make sure that we have the staff’s utmost confidence in the actions of my client. I would be sure to thank you for it.” she stared at him pointedly to make her intentions clear.

“Oh! Yes ma’am! we are a confidential team. Your trust is very important to us. Call down to the concierge office and they will be able to help you with anything you may need. Anything…” The bellhop said the last as he smiled lavasciously at her and closed the door behind him.

Liise flipped the lock on the door and ran into her room, flinging herself onto the massive bed. Her phone buzzed in her hand and she hit the little ball on the front of the blackberry to see the message she’d just received.

she had two:

“Fethers, Don’t screw this up!” from Mr. Sands and

“Take lots of pictures!” from Brea.

“I’m on it sir. The room is perfect and I am already setting up plans to intercept Mr. Holt at the airport.” She replied back to Mr. Sands, then set the phone down. She pulled out her little digital camera, and started snapping pictures. Before she knew it, an hour had past, she still couldn’t breathe from the corset and she needed to shop. But first was first. She was getting a massage.

#

“Welcome to the Las Vegas Spa & Salon. What can we do for you today?” the perky little blonde stood at the front desk and smiled at Liise as she peruzed the menu.

“I have no idea. I’ve been granted a chance to do a little pampering and i have a huge weekend ahead of me. I want to be presentable.”

“Hmm…” the girl eye’d her. “Ferdinand!” she yelled as a tall thin man in a billowing poet top and black leather pants.

She stood, slightly nervous, as he circled her.

“Oh… I can work with this. Unrefined beauty, ” he said with a lilting soft voice. “and junk in the trunk! oh honey if only i had curves like yours.” He grinned as Liise blushed at the unexpected attention.

“Well… I really don’t want to do too much. I can’t change too much. my boss has to be able to recognize me.” she chuckled as Ferdinand lead her behind the curtains.

He handed her a pretty terry robe and told her to strip down to nothing. She shook her head at first but lost the battle as he pushed her into the room and started to call out for help. she stripped and left her clothes hanging on hangers in the little dressing room.

He took her straight into the salon and started with her hair. He spread sweet and earthy smelling shampoo throughout her hair and she practically moaned as he massaged her scalp. He rinsed and then lathered her head full of deep conditioner, wrapping it into a heated towel and moving her into a small room.

“Lie on the table.” he ordered, all of his kindness seeped away. She did as she was told and watched as a smiling woman with a long blond braid walked in with a rolling cart of strange pastes and such.

“What’s this?” Liise asked.

“Rejuvinating mask with pore control and refresher. I am also going to have them do your nails. You’ll be getting a french pink and white set for now. Later will come the full massage.” He stuck his head out of the door. “Ah Hah!” he practically squealed as another blond wheeled in a smaller cart and small stool with strange instruments for the manicure and pedicure.

“Where are you going?” she asked in trepidation.

“I”ll be back to check on you, darling! I’m just going to get you penciled in for the rest of the necessities. Lay back and enjoy!” As he walked out, the braided blond slapped a coat of green minty scented warm sludge onto Liise’s face. she immediately leaned back and sighed.

Let the pampering begin she thought as she dozed in the chair.

“Let me get this straight Miss Lethers, you don’t own a single evening gown?” Mr. Sands looked like he wanted to tear his hair out. What little he had left anyway. “Do you at least have a cocktail dress?”

“No sir. Considering that you never invite me to any of the office parties, I haven’t had the chance to really need to own something like that.”

“Fine. When you get to Vegas, Find yourself something nice to wear. I made a list of the things I had a feeling you would need. Just add cocktail dress to it. You have a budget on things like this, keep that in mind. I expect you to treat Mr. Peter Holt with the utmost respect and attend to his needs as he requests them. Do you understand me? I do not want to hear about any unhappiness on my clients part.” he leaned back in his chair and eyed me up and down. “Something has changed about you. Your figure seems different.”

I felt the heat rise in my face as I remembered the tight corset. How could I forget? The damned thing was successfully cutting off my air supply. “Sir, I would appreciate if you could give me just enough respect as to not comment on my figure.”

“Oh, can it Lethers. You and I both know that you’re a smart girl. I am telling you this not as your boss, but as a man. I needed someone who wouldn’t be a distraction to the clients, but it wouldn’t kill you to take the time to make yourself look just a little beautiful. I know its in there somewhere. I’ve seen you at the Christmas parties. You know how to do it. You just don’t do it often. Well, I’m telling you to put some effort in your looks, but not too much.” Mr. Sands stopped and sighed. For once, he looked genuinely concerned. Too bad it was about my looks and not my work. “People all want to think that looks aren’t important; that its what’s inside that counts. Well I hate to break it to you, but that’s a bunch of bullshit fed to us by a bunch of pansy ass sensitive babies. You want to be successful Miss Lethers? You have to look the part.”

“I understand, sir.” I gritted between clenched teeth.

“Now get out of here and don’t make me regret giving you this promotion.”

I sat in my little window seat on my Boeing 747 headed to Las Vegas and said silent prayers for patience. I hated flying but it was more of the cramped seating, the turbulance, and the overall waiting. I couldn’t help hoping that Brea would be able to meet me in Vegas. She would make everything better.

In the mean time, I had my laptop set up on my tray and I was busy creating a schedule. It was a typical busy Friday flight and I was attempting to not elbow my seatmate. The man was in his mid fifties and scrawny as a scarecrow. He had a thick white tuft of hair on his head and simple wire glasses on his face. He seemed nice but then he was asleep and I was making every attempt to keep him that way. The last thing I needed was a chattering seatmate on this crappy flight.

Number one on my To Do list was to check in then go shopping. I had promised I would call Brea as soon as I got in, and to email Mr. Sands to let him know that everything so far, was running smoothly. Tomorrow, I was expected to meet Mr. Peter Holt and his entourage at the airport with a limo. The limo had been secured by the new admin that had replaced me and now worked for Mr. Sands directly. She seemed nice, if not a few enchiladas short of a combo plate. It was the only thing I allowed her to do, since I was already panicking from this trip.

I had planned a series of comprehensive meetings as well as some very nice dinners and outings for the clients. I wanted Mr. Holt to feel pampered. I did a little research and heard he liked golf, so I set up some time on TCP on the Canyons. It’s supposed to be a pretty posh golf club that hosts the Las Vegas Invitational. It would also give me some time alone to catch my breath on Saturday. I had a lot to get done and so little time to do it.

The man next to me stirred in his sleep then promptly rested his head on my shoulder. Well there went that. I closed my laptop and rested my head on the cool window, dozing as the plane made its way over the California desert.

I was woken up by the flight attendant, lightly calling to me. We had landed and everyone was off the plane. I apologized, which she kindly dismissed, and made my way off the plane.

McCarran International Airport is one of the most unique airports I had ever seen. It was huge! There were slot machines just outside each of the gates. I immediately turned on my phone and called the car company that was supposed to pick me up. I stepped out into the baggage claim area, just past security and saw my last name written on a large white card.

“Miss Lethers?” the woman said. She was in her late twenties and dressed in a black suit with a chauffeur’s cap on her head. Her short blonde hair was tucked behind her ears and barely touched her chin. She much taller then me and reminded me of a model that should have been working as an admin in my office. That thought changed the moment she smiled at me and I saw the intelligence in her eyes.

“Hi. I just got off the phone with your boss. I was asking where I was supposed to meet you. I’ve never been driven around before.” I smiled warmly at her and she returned it in earnest.

“No biggie. I’m Maggie and I’ll be your driver for the weekend. Since your company has pretty much made it clear that you were going to need a driver all weekend, I was sent. Don’t worry, your in perfectly capable hands.” I walked beside her as we made our way to the special short term parking area that housed all of the taxi lines as well as the limos. I stopped as she stepped up to a black limousine and opened the back door.

“There’s got to be some mistake. I am pretty sure we asked for a sedan.”

“I was told limo all weekend. If you want, I can make a call and we can switch it. Although, I do have to admit, arriving in style to the Bellagio can really be a blessing. Trust me.” she flashed a secretive grin that made me want to laugh. I could tell she was one smart cookie and I just had to trust her in this. I stepped into the limo and sat down in the black plush leather seat. “The bar is stocked if you would like a drink and if there is anywhere you need to go to, you just press that button there. It connects to me in the front. Are you comfortable?”

“Oh my god Maggie, this is beautiful!” I sat awed at the lavished comfort surrounding me. I was soaking it in like a sponge! “I want to check in and see my room but I need to do some shopping. It seems my boss has decided I don’t look snazzy enough for our clients.”

She laughed at that. “You look fine to me. I am guessing you mean the ones we pick up here tomorrow, right?”

“Yep. Those are the very ones. He pretty much told me to go buy something pretty for myself. He’s lucky I didn’t slap him.” I immediately felt comfortable with Maggie. She made me laugh and I liked that.

“Well here.” she handed me her card. “that’s my cell number. When you’re ready to go shopping, just call me and I will meet you out front of the hotel. Okay?” I nodded as she grinned and shut the door. The limo cabin was lit with pretty blue lighting. My head had already started to throb from wearing the thick tresses in a tight bun. I was going to have to take it down as soon as I settled into my room.

In no time at all, the limo was weaving in and out of traffic, heading straight for the main strip. Las Vegas Boulevard. I couldn’t help sliding across the seat, trying to see everything I possibly could. I was floored by the daytime beauty of Las Vegas. Everything about it was exactly like I thought it would be. Even though it was a Saturday, the streets were teeming with people.

I stared as we passed the Tropicana Hotel, The Excalibur Hotel, And New York New York. I couldn’t believe the architectural wonders that passed us by as we drove. The MGM Hotel was massive and green as can be! Its giant LCD screens advertised concerts and prize fights. As we sat at a light, I let the window roll down fully just so I could stare in full tourist mode at the Monte Carlo. It’s sleek and expensive look screamed European money and class. We passed the highly exotic Caesar’s Palace and I sat in awe when we stopped in front of the Eiffel tower. The Paris Hotel was so amazing, with its classic historical look and that tower; that outstanding tower! As we turned into the Bellagio, I felt myself get excited. My heart thundered in my chest as I watched the beautiful water show as we passed it to pull into the limousine drop off area. Just as Maggie pulled up and parked, my cell phone rang loudly in my purse. I pulled it out and saw Brea’s name across the screen.

“Hey! Are you gambling up a storm yet?”

“Oh my god Brea! It’s so beautiful here! I can’t even believe it. I wish you were here. Are you coming out?”

“Nope. Not only am I broke as a joke, but works got me tied up all weekend. Those jerks don’t give a damn about my personal life.”

“What life? Stop acting like you have this huge life.”

“Har dee har har. Okay so since I can’t make it out there, I am determined to make sure you have a good time. You will go buy yourself a hell of a weekend wardrobe on the company dime, drink yourself silly and get pampered!” Brea was so crazy when it came to trying new things. I was always to scared and she was always pushing me. But as I stood there and stared at the giant stained glass flowers hanging from the ceiling of the Bellagio check in area, I couldn’t help but feel free. A freedom I had never felt before. I was completely alone in Las Vegas! It was time to let my hair down.

“Hey Brea, I have to check in, let me call you when I’m shopping. Yes, shopping. Oh, and by the way, you wouldn’t believe what I had to wear today, that black silk corset. Yeah stop laughing.” I hung up while she choked on laughter on the other end of the line. I had to admit I had outstanding cleavage popping out of the collar of my suit jacket, but that didn’t excuse the lack of air.

“Yes, I think its time to live a little.”

“You got that right sister.” a man in a Hawaiian shirt and khakis said as he passed me by. I couldn’t help but giggle as I waved bye to Maggie and checked myself in.

“Gah! What did you do?!” I yelled at Glubglub, my cat, as I found her chewing on my last good pair of stockings. “You evil ball of fur!”

It was the morning of my flight and I was so nervous, I felt like I was going to throw up. My flight left at 12:15 pm and I needed to be at the office by 10:00 am for my final packet on the client. I was to have a quick word with Mr. Sands, show him my outfit, then be off to the airport to catch my plane.

I started to tear through my drawers looking for another pair. God I hated pantyhose but my best suit was a skirt suit. I had to wear pantyhose with it. I knew that Mr. Sands would have a heart attack if I didn’t. I found two more pairs only to have each run giant racing stripes down my legs as I fought with them.

At the bottom of my “never wear again” drawer I found a pair of black silk thigh highs.

“I could wear these.” I muttered to myself picturing them rolling down as I went through security. Then I saw it. Sitting in the back of the drawer, hidden with the rest of my collection of lingerie was a set of garter straps. It would have to do. My bags were already packed and organized. I just had to finish getting ready.

I sat in front of my floor length mirror and gently pulled on my thigh highs. They were an old addition to a Halloween costume a few years back. The garter straps attached to a black corset that I wore as my blouse that night. I was coerced into being a cancan dancer by Brea. She was the same and we were supposed to be a showstopper. It was for about five minutes, then everyone realized that the plump cancan girl with the nice legs was a wallflower. At least now I was going to get some use out of the costume.

I sifted through the drawer and pulled out the black satin corset. It was rumpled and folded into the side of the drawer. I hadn’t worn it since that night of the party and I wasn’t looking forward to lacing it up myself. There were large metal hooks and eyes on the front and a thin but strong black cord lacing up the back. The last time I attempted to lace this thing, Brea was working the lacings and I just hung on for dear life. Now, I had to find a way to lace it up, alone.

Just kill me now, I thought as I stared at the size tag. It was a size 36D and I was no longer in that lovely little range. I was a 38D now and that was pretty much a struggle as it was. I threaded the lacing through the grommet holes in the back, leaving it nice and loose. I tied the ends together at the bottom in a small but tight knott and pulled the lacings to hang from the middle holes. I wrapped the corset around me and hooked the front closures.

I pressed my chest against the wall to keep the corset from falling to my ankles before I could get it laced tight enough. I watched in the mirror behind me as I pulled the laces tighter and tighter. Hell, I might as well have a nice figure with this, since I was going to be stuck wearing it on a plane and into Vegas.

“Oof!” I exhaled loudly as I wrapped the laces around my waist and tied them into a small bow. “Shut up, you.” I grumbled at my cat as she stared at me from her favorite pillow on my bed. I could barely breathe but I had to admit, I looked different. I pulled my skirt on and pulled out the wrap around top. I was actually lucky that the set had a wrap top. I was able to adjust it to my new waist size. I dabbed on some light makeup and pulled my hair back into a bun.

I hurriedly slipped on my heels and took a cursory glance in the mirror before running out the door. I was lucky enough to have a lovely old lady for a neighbor who was willing to come in and check on Glubglub while I was gone. The trip was only for the weekend starting today, Friday and ending with me flying back to Seattle on Monday morning. I threw my one bag into the car drove straight for the office.

“So what are we doing for your birthday, Liise?”

“Nothing. Mr. Sands gave me my first assignment today.”

“So? Hey! Let’s do an all night Joan Crawford movie fest! It’ll be fun!”

“No you don’t get it Brea . I won’t even be in town. I was so looking forward to just hanging around and doing nothing for my birthday and now that pompous jerk has taken that away too.” My best friend Breanna Stravinsky and I were two peas in a pod. We both loved classic film noir and we both secretly read romance novels like they were going out of style. We looked completely different but it was like we were two halves of the same soul. While I lived out my boring days in Seattle , she was having the time of her life in Los Angeles. Her company had relocated her there six months ago and I hadn’t felt complete since. She was supposed to fly out for my birthday but that’s all changed now.

“Ya know, for being a promoted girl, you don’t sound really happy. What did that creepy old man do now?”

“I told him I was taking time off for my birthday two months ago. This morning he pulled me in his office to tell me that my plans had to be changed. He’s sending me off on my first business trip to sin city!”

“Holy crap you’re going to Vegas on the company bill?! That’s outstanding!”

“No its not! I don’t want to go to Las Vegas ! I want to sit around with my best friend and watch Joan Crawford go psycho with a can of cleanser, damnit!” I was furious! Of all times, why did it have to be that day? I was turning twenty five years old. The big two five. Mr. Sands knew it was important to me and since I had only a week to get used to my new position, I thought everything would be okay. Who knew he was throwing me to the wolves this early?

He was sending me with the corporate credit card and setting me up in a posh hotel so I could meet some new potential clients and keep them happy for a weekend in the city of temptation. I had never even been to Las Vegas. He told me to arrive a day early to familiarize myself with the best places to take the client. He even told me he would excuse a little spending as long as it benefited the client. I felt like slapping him.

“Okay you know what? You need this trip. You need to go have a good time and let your hair down! Liise, you’ve been depressed for too long now. I miss you terribly too but you can’t become a complete recluse.”

“I’m not a recluse! I do the exact same stuff I would be doing if you were here, except it would be done with you. I don’t want to go to Vegas. I don’t know how to entertain rich men. I know now why I was hired for this position. I’m no threat to having anything underhanded happening. He can rest assured that I won’t charge a freaking night at the strip club on his tab. I’m a freaking glorified gofer!”

“So what? It pays well, you get to travel and you don’t have to pay for a dime of it. Just enjoy it. Ignore your crappy boss and enjoy the fact that maybe while you’re in Vegas, you can get a nice massage… have a spa day as soon as you get there! Do a little shopping on his tab. Tell him that you have nothing that would be appropriate to wear in front of such a high class client. He’ll totally go for it.” Brea took a deep breath into the phone and I knew she was worried about me. I was never one to take the initiative to party or do what other people find as fun. I was always reading, writing, or crunching numbers. Its all I have ever done.

“Okay. I guess your right.” I reluctantly conceded. Maybe she was right. “I might as well enjoy the spa. I guess I’m going to Vegas.”

I ended up making a deal with Brea . If she could get the funds together to switch the ticket, then she would meet me in Las Vegas and stay with me in my room. Unfortunately she had bought the flight ticket months ago at a discount price and was barely scraping by in LA. I would have offered to pay for the upgrades but I hadn’t gotten paid at my new rate yet so I was still pretty damned poor.

I was taking a business flight and Mr. Sands had asked me to dress in my best outfit so he could see how I would look when I met his new potential clients. I thought it was a bit far fetched to ask, but since he pretty much told me I had carte blanche on the spending, I obliged.

Vegas Baby! Chapter 1

12 Feb

Chapter One

“Miss Lethers, could I see you in my office please?”

“Yes Mr. Sands.” I released the speaker button on my phone and immediately broke out into a cold and clammy sweat. Mr. Sands usually took a stroll out to my cubicle to accost me for the day. He was strict, severe and always followed the rules. The only time anyone was called into his office was to be fired.

“You wanted to see me sir?” I said as I peeked my head in past the half opened door.

“Yes, please come in and close the door behind you.”

Oh crap. Oh Jeez. He’s going to fire me. I just know it!

“Liise; can I call you Liise?”

“Um, sure.”

“Have a seat. I want to talk to you about your current job.”

I sat in one of the plush leather visitors chairs he had scattered in the room. Panic started to bubble up in my chest, making it hard for me to breathe.

Please God, don’t let him fire me. I need this job. I thought as he fiddled with papers on his desk and situated himself for the big “talk”. He sat back in his expensive black Valentino suit. Mr. Sands was a forty eight year old middle aged balding man who hated his socialite wife and ignored his spoiled children. He had very fair skin and light blue eyes that almost always held an icy stare to them. Not only was he the owner of Horowitz & Schermer Accounting Firm, but he was also my direct boss. He liked to reside over all of the admins that worked in the office because he thought of himself as quite the ladies man. I thought of him as disgusting. But my opinion didn’t count. I was hired on a fluke. Every other admin in this office looks like an ex model, just the way this fast talking rich man liked them.

I couldn’t lose my job now, I just couldn’t! After three years of working as an admin in their bullpen, I thought I deserved more. Last year, instead of raises, management, being Mr. Sands, gifted us with fifty dollar gift cards at The Gap. Sure, we all felt a little gypped. Okay, a lot gypped; more like completely ripped off but no one had enough guts to say a word.

The only reason I was still here was to be able to list Horowitz & Schermer Accounting Firm on my resume. I was hired by one of the junior executives and did so well in accounting and organization, they decided to keep me; no matter what I looked like. The longer I lasted, the better off I was. The company alone was an outstanding foot in the door to bigger and better places, or even to start my own accounting firm. Deep down inside, I wanted to be a top financial analyst.

“Liise, you’ve been with us quite some time haven’t you?”

“Yes sir.” The sweat trickled down my back, pooling at my belt.

“Do you think you’ve done a good job?”

What he hell kind of question is that? “Yes sir, I do. I work hard for your firm, sir.” I tried my best to hide the indignation in my voice. He was up to something, I could feel it.

“How important is this job to you?”

“Very important, sir. Not only do I need it to survive but I feel proud to say I work here.” That was a tiny lie. Pride for this job died two months after I started working, when I had heard one of the execs laughing with another exec around a hallway corner. To my disgust, they were saying how much they missed the previous admin before me. It seems, their words not mine, that she was hot enough to fry their eggs. Jackasses. They had said I was too nerdy and mousy for them.

“I have a proposition for you.” Mr. Sands said with a wry smile on his face that made me immediately raise my eyebrows. “I want to promote you. I have a new position opening up in Marketing and New Accounts. It’s a hefty raise. I see that your resume shows you did quite well in your previous job before we took you in as an admin. You have a healthy amount of experience in marketing and it would be good for the company to have one such as you handling this position.”

“One such as me, sir?” I was in shock. The bastard was promoting me! I didn’t know whether to be ecstatic or angry. After three years of slaving away, doing most of his and his execs’ work while they played golf and hid their mistresses, I was finally getting promoted.

“Well, yes Liise. You see, I’m going to be frank with you. This position is going to be working directly with new clients. Meeting the top executives of many successful companies takes a sort of…” he paused and tapped his forefinger on his chin. “finesse; professionalism. I needed to find someone who I knew would be utterly professional in all types of situations. Being as you seem to be the type of young woman who doesn’t, shall we say, indulge too much or take too many risks, I thought you would be perfect. You have just the qualities we need.” His smile wilted as he saw the expression on my face.

“So you are giving me this raise and new position because I’m a nerd who has no outside life.” I shot the words at him dryly. I immediately regretted the comment. I needed the money so bad I couldn’t turn him down but it didn’t change how furious I was.

His face went into immediate lockdown and he stared at me with his icy shrewd business eyes. “Yes, that would be it, but that’s not the only reason. Inherently, you are the most qualified to handle this job.” He didn’t seem all that thrilled to be giving me the this position, but the fact that he’s hired nothing but sharks and models, maybe I was the most trustworthy employee he had. “If you choose to take it, that is. Please, take your lunch to think it over.” He handed me a packet and went back to the papers on his desk. I took his ignoring me as a hint that I was dismissed and left his office confused and slightly feeling sick.
